I’ve been working with #bossbabe for several weeks now. I call her BB because she prefers to remain anonymous online. When we first met, we realized that she had an overwhelming anxiety over weighing herself and that she was an emotional eater. So through gentle nudges, and planning together, we opted to keep her off the scale unless we were doing check-ins together, something that would happen every 5-6 weeks. We also agreed, at her suggestion, to allow me to log into her food journal account to see if I had any recommendations about her current eating style.

Fast forward and BB is getting stronger, sleeping better; decreased her blood pressure meds; has less anxiety; better boundaries with individuals around her that disturb her peace; all non-scale victories for sure!

So today after our session, she confides that she was pretty bummed because although because she felt really good and has been doing everything “right,” she decided to jump on the scale and was disappointed when she saw the scale number, about 0.6 lb higher than the last time she weighed. Yes, you read that right – 0.6 lb higher! Like a smidge over a half of a pound up.

We have all been here, right? We rocking our skinny jeans. We doing all the things. We smashing our workouts. And feeling tight and right, so we jump on the scale expecting to see a huge decrease. Come on now, you know I’m telling the truth. And BAM – the scale becomes our WORST ENEMY!

BUT WHY??? The scale is only 1 measure; a variable measure of progress. There are so may other things that we can use with scale weight to determine how to proceed. So why do we get caught up with this dammed flat, metal piece of equipment that spits out a number whenever

  • we stand on it
  • when we step on and off, on and off, on and off
  • when we shift right to left, left to right, right to left
  • when we get naked, get on, get off, go use the bathroom, then get back on
  • when we move that piece of shit metal all around the house looking for that perfect weighing spot

WHY do we HANDCUFF ourselves to this piece of metal???

So I spent a good part of today, doing insta stories of all of my clients wins; all non-scale victories that were HUGE wins and I posted about them because sometimes a BB needs a reminder just how awesome they are, no matter what that freaking piece of metal says.

Ya feel me?

All I do is win win win no matter what

And every time I step up in the buildin’
Everybody hands go up

And they stay there
And they say yeah
And they stay there
Up down, up down, up down
‘Cause all I do is win win win
And if you goin’ in put your hands in the air
Make ’em stay there
